In 1988, the College opened its doors to offer
the degree of Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. It was in 1991
when the College was finally granted full recognition by the Department
of Education, Culture, and Sports (DECS) to offer all levels of the five
year Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy program.
In 1992, the college produced its 1st batch of 26 graduates, 25 of whom
took the succeeding Board Exams. All of them passed, with graduates placing
no. 2, 4 & 13. The following year, the 1st batch of students who started
their freshmen year in 1988, took the board with a 92.72% passing rate,
placing no. 1, 6, and 8.
In its short span of existence, the college continued to maintain its
lofty position among the top three P.T. schools in the Philippines, closely
breathing down the neck of older schools, e.g. UP and UST. In fact, in
1996, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), in a press release cited
UERM College of Physical Therapy as the best P.T. school in the Philippines.
For the past years, the college has been offering post-graduate courses
as part of its continuing pursuit of producing world-class physical therapists.
One of its guest speakers, Dr. David James Magee, a renowned professor
at the University of Alberta and author of Orthopedic Physical Assessment
(a textbook for physical therapy students) is now a visiting professor
of the College of P.T.
After 11 years, the school is now 100% staffed by faculty who were graduates
from our own PT program.
